Out on a Limb

Out on a Limb ........One of my favorite pieces , was painted in 2009 , its roughly, 5x7 inches and it meets the requirements, in the ruling for a miniature .... I enjoyed painting this one very much indeed it hung next to The Vista ... a circular watercolour ,that is also on my blog , this piece I would like one day to paint much larger with the same methods I used in the smaller piece here .... as an artist.... I find it interesting to look as my art evolves this piece and another was bought by a very avid art collector ,here in trinidad ... its always good when you create a piece to know that others love it and it ends up on the walls of an art collector .....the shades of blues and greens i loved working with , hope you enjoy it and do leave a comment or two .....

Going home

Going Home ...is a piece i really loved doing in all shades of blue .... its a watercolour that is 6x9 inches , matted and framed and still available ,i am tempted to keep it, as it brings a sense of peace .... when i paint, i paint with the music of Handel in the background, his water piece that is so beautiful ,,, this place does not exist.... yet it can in the every day life of the caribbean as .. one journeys home from a day at the store on foot.... it can be anywhere in the country of Trinidad ... and thats why at times i love painting from my imagination,However not all my works are painted from my imagination as i tend to use pictures or sketches of places ......i hope you enjoy this piece as much as i have ........

High Up

High Up.... is a watercolour thats around 5x9 inches .... i wanted in this small piece ,to depict men looking into the day that was ending , theres one guy sitting and another looking towards the valley below .... these men are hunters ,high up so they look down and can see it all,,, the view they have is a good one, its a view that brings a silience and peace to the end of a hunting day ... many times when i paint, i have an idea what i want to bring to those who will view the work ,this piece is one of many and can be considered a moment , a time that comes and goes its rather a very precious moment that many of us would have with different things in life this one is an appreciation of nature as these men stand back and look on .......

Coconut vendor

Coconut Vendor ......this is another piece of Trinidad island life ,we no longer see its of the famed coconut vendors, that came into Port of Spain, mainly east indians with coconuts that they sold to passers by to drink the water from ...they cut them open so that many could eat the soft white jelly of the nut itself it was a treat, that many went for once in Port of Spain , these coconut carts ,were first seen in town, then they were to be found around the savannah. I remember as a little boy comming upon them pulled over on the side of the Queens Park savannah, with the donkeys at the time ,,, as the years went by the donkeys were replaced by trucks, then to this day they were replaced with fancy carts , no longer do we see many of them again ... in this painting Yuilles Printers ,is to be found in down town ,this was done from a photograph ...its 23x33 inches ... if interested i have it in my own personal art collection but may sell if the right person came along with the right offer ......

Cocoa Dancers

Dancing the Cocoa....... this painting is roughly 23x30 inches ... its a watercolour of a time when on the cocoa estates ,the cocoa was danced or walked upon, by a few of the hired hands in Trinidad. The cocoa was one of the very best world wide and sought after, the estates were owned by many french descendents who prospered in the late 1800s and early 1900s from sales of the crop , many estates were set up during that time , here in this painting once again i have captured an old method, a method that we no longer see here in Trinidad ,relating to this prized crop ...this painting is actually taken from an old photograph that i worked with the photo was in sepia colours ,so i brought it alive by bringing colour into it .... it was sold at my 2007 exhibition entitled Trinidad .. a series of 32 pieces in all at the time this was a favaroite one ....

Flowers For sale

Flowers For sale.........one of a series for an exhibition .....in this watercolour i wanted to bring to the viewer the brightness of the caribbean ,.... the colours used here are bright fresh and add a difference to other works ....i wanted also to capture the flower vendor or vendors of Trinidad so few left as flowers are now sold in malls or flower shops this piece shows a woman not only selling her cut flowers in buckets set up on the pavement but also honey etc ... the flower vender adds a burst of beauty when come upon in Trinidad on the corners of busy streets they once set up its now rare to find them ...i backed the sale of the selling of the flowers with a burst of a flowering garden of an old home and one can note the vibrant flowering of the bouganvilla the purple as well as the crimson ... i indeed had fun with the shading in with the blues i used for shadows ..this piece was sold some time back ....

The Proposal

The Proposal ......this is a circular watercolour 6 inches , with a wide mat and frame ...this piece was part of a collection of circular ones , its in the keeping with the miniature style and is very transparent in its tones of weatercolour ......this is a walk in the gardens here in Trinidad, of two people a man and a woman , our gardens here is famed for many a couple coming to it years ago to propose to their loved ones ,while walking or sitting on the grassy lawns ....the bamboo arches overhead making the perfect addition to my little painting , the focal point however being the two figures , i remember painting this , as i normally take my time with most pieces that i do ,this piece unfolded beautifully i am never sure when i paint what will come about i am happy with the background as i achieved the light i wanted and as a signature the foreground is framed in shrubs .... do enjoy this piece ... it is available still .....and you can contact me for further information about it .....

For Sale

For Sale .... is a watercolour that I painted for my 2007 exhibition of art the exhibit was entitled Trinidad , I wanted to showcase different images of Trinidad ,the land of the hummingbird and steel pan .... For Sale is an ordinary day down town with a vendor selling her fruits and vegetables , this piece i enjoyed as the colour was a joy to work with from the bright green of the walled building, to the dress wear of the women as well as the usual umbrella in place ....what more can i say but it is an image that can be still seen up to this date down town Port of Spain

, this piece has been sold for some time now ......

Restful Moment

Restful moment , is a watercolour, that is part of three pieces ,all are done in the very same hues of watercolour and each piece is 9x5 inches ,then matted wide and framed , these three pieces hung together once in a gallery for my 2008 exhibition , i remember the feeling that i had when i did these three pieces, this was one of peace, as the day comes to an end one where the quiet river will meet the dark shoreline of the ocean , i rather enjoyed painting these pieces in the dusk look, giving them that effect , the skies....... i do believe i enjoyed the most as i was able to bring about a clean transfer of watercolour to the very skies i wanted in these 9x5 inches ..... hope you enjoy them they are all three framed in a stark black frame this pops it as well ....

The Escape

The Escape.....a circular piece ... is part of 20 pieces, all circular 6 inches all miniatures ,a miniature is, 6 inches and below, no more than 7 inches it can be , watercolours matted and framed , these 20 pieces comprised an installation at the gallery that made them look like portholes through a time , i enjoyed doing these 20 pieces , most have been sold off , and a few remain in my care for sale still .......i worked with very fine brushes and each of the 20 pieces is full of detail, however not too much to disturb the very presentation that i wanted to bring to those who view ....... the escape,, although 6 inches is matted and framed in a classic way , when i am framing my work for exhibitions ,i feel that one should do them all beautifully so these works were well framed by friends of mines here in Trinidad, that ran a gallery .......the escape is the name i gave it ,as it was very much an escape for me to disappear into the very painting of it , without a distraction, i paint to the sound of only nature or music , on completing the work i knew the name instantly , as i wanted to go there and just escape the race of this world we live in ....... do enjoy this piece its in a leading gallery now in Trinidad ......

Bagshot House

Bagshot House .......this painting was one of a collection of 27 pieces ,for a full scale exhibit in 2006 of old places , from homes to parks to old offices , that were no longer standing this beautiful house , was owned by a well known family in Trinidad, and had a sweeping lawn area and was surrounded by beautiful trees ,that framed it with walk ways and little paths ,it was a breath taking place to just look at , however the family sold it and that was its demise ,as it was torn down and all the beauty around it was cut down , to leave a barren piece of land it was all done at night .... this was a very sad thing .... my exhibition in 2006 was titled.. Shadows of Yesterday ....as it spoke volumes of the places gone from our landscape , many artist have painted this house , i had tried not to, staying away from what had been reproduced often however i was asked to do this for the exhibit ,and i am very very proud to say that the original was purchased by a member of the family that lived there for many years ... it has been said its the very best painting ,of the house ever painted by any artist by the family that lived there ,this in its rite is a very high compliment ....enjoy it ....

The Awakening

The Awakening ..... i titled this piece ... for my 2009 exhibition , its a large piece , and a watercolour , my favoured medium , i find i connect some how spiritualy with the very flow of the use of watercolour , sometimes its transparent in use or at times dark its all on the mood of how i am feeling , this piece i wanted to bring about the element of light and the gradual upwards walk into this path of light ,,, hence i named it the Awakening , its now in a private collection and i am happy to say it still brings me great joy seeing it on my website , hope you enjoy it ...........
